A collector of that one quarter. For decades it's been the official size reference for my hobby equipment photos. It's the year of my birth, pre-1965.

Nope, don't have a hdmi recorder. Link was stable, only one glitch of a half a second , about 5k out, but 99.999999% happy with the stability.
Will still stay with OHD (at least for real long range flights), the lack of fully customisation of the OSD, no wind direction widget compared with the brilliant Qopenhd app keeps me away from fully changing the side.

Another test of the Pi HQ camera.

Looks really good close up.

Yes, it's a good camera.
Strange, I had not to use any additional adapters. I could focus it as is. Maybe I had not screwed the lens all the way in to the sensor and fixed it like that.

Got it, good to know.
About OSD, well, you can't have them all as the saying goes Ruby: Digital FPV System (version 9.3: Support for Radxa SBC) - Page 178 (8)
That OHD app, it's useful for who uses a phone or touch screen. If you don't it's useless. Anyway each person prefer different things. I still think a button interface (or now a rotary encoder) is easier to use (and easier to learn muscle memory) than touch (and does not get in the way in some scenarios), but anyway.

Short run. Quality degrades a bit from sharing with Google drive.

Cool.
You are on 18mb radio rate, so you should increase the video bitrate (8-10mb) to get even more sharper/detailed image. Increase also the GPU frequency to 450 mhz and overvoltage to 5 (on the vehicle).

Petru,

Ok, I usually ran with a fixed 6 Mb/s video rate. Anything higher than that and I usually got repeated messages that said I was overloading the radio link. I do not notice any delay, just the messages.

Then I tried your suggested changes: 18 Mb/s radio rate, 8 Mb/s video rate, vehicle 450MHz GPU with overvoltage=5.

I got link overload messages only in the first 15 seconds or so. For the rest of the drive, almost three minutes, there were no more link overload messages.

I still think I can get the HQ camera to focus better on distant objects. The way I have it now it is brilliantly sharp on objects about 5-10 feet away.

Also, and this is just a feeling, I think the HQ camera adds a tiny amount of latency. Any movement during the filming blurs the imagery a little - more so than with the IMX-219 camera.

Thanks,

Paul

Today I tried to use OpenHD so that I could have dragonlink RSSI and wind direction for the long range flights. But was not happy with the OpenHD's performance. Ruby HD video is much more sharper and has much better quality. Second issue is that the HD link RSSI is kind of laggy on OpenHD and its very hard to point high gain antenna. Also the adaptors are not numbered on its OSD. So its not easy to figure out which adaptor corresponds to which RSSI? Where as in Ruby its instant with no latency and the signal bars on Ruby are so useful for pointing high gain Antennae.

Hope Ruby OSD gets wind direction arrow for long range flights. I tried everything I could but still didn't succeed in getting Dragonlink RSSI on the OSD.

Went up to 10 Mb/s video rate with 18 Mb/s radio rate. Also, attempted to focus the camera better for distance.

Here is a screenshot of the imagery.

Interestingly, I am no longer getting any RF link overload messages. and that's really good.

Hi Petru,

I rigged up another better microphone setup using usb sound card and powered flywoo microphone board. But I am still hearing same static on Version 5.2.

I'll do some tests.
Can you confirm your microphone is working as expected? Connect the microphone and sound card to the controller Pi. Having a HDMI display with speakers connected to the controller, can you login to the Pi and use the arecord and aplay commands to record some audio and play it back and see if it works as expected (you hear what you should)?

arecord -l (lists the recording available devices);
aplay -l (list the available playing devices);

example:
arecord --device=hw:1,0 --file-type wav --format S16_LE --rate 44100 -c 1 test.wav
(will record to test.wav untill you stop, Ctrl+C)
aplay test.wav
(will play the file)

Petru

Hello,
Here is the newest version, 5.3

What's new:

* Add option to set custom names for each unique radio interface on the controller;
* Show camera sensor name in the UI;
* Added one more OSD font;
* Add support for rotary encoder for menu navigation or camera adjustments;
* Fix bug on parsing of SBUS input frames;
* Fix OSD bugs;
* Fix mounting of slow USB sticks;

Download locations:

Awesome!!

That's a neat idea to name the radio interface. Thanks.

I will do it as you suggested.
