How to watch Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt's 'The Fall Guy' at home (8)

If Ryan Gosling crying to Taylor Swift wasn't enough to hook you, perhaps the boatload of exciting stunts and a romance with Emily Blunt will do the trick. The Fall Guy, the latest blockbuster from stuntman-turned-director David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Bullet Train), is officially available to watch at home just a couple of weeks after it made its theatrical debut.

It may still be a few months until the action-romcom flick slides onto a streaming service, but as of May 21, you can rent or purchase the film and have yourself a movie night. Here's everything you need to know to catch multi-Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling as veteran Hollywood stuntman Colt Seavers in The Fall Guy.

What is The Fall Guy about?

Adapted from the 1980s TV series of the same name, The Fall Guy centers around veteran stuntman Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) —one of the unsung heroes of Hollywood. He reluctantly returns after retirement after the star of the big-budget sci-fi blockbuster Metalstorm goes missing. He's tasked with not only performing intense stunts to keep the movie production rolling, but also unearthing the missing actor to keep the directorial debut of his ex-flame Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt) afloat.

"Our goal was to pay homage to the original series, but we wanted to add our unique twist on it and transform it into more of an origin story," director David Leitch said in the production notes.

Mashable film editor Kristy Puchko notes that the "crackling script from Drew Pearce, and the dazzling chemistry between Gosling and Blunt" make it a standout in the action/romantic-comedy world.

Is The Fall Guy worth watching?

"The Fall Guy is action/romantic-comedy done right, a rare gem in the crown of this challenging subgenre," Puchko writes in her review. It may not have been a massive box office success, but it did manage to earn back its production budget, making $127.5 million at the worldwide box office so far. Plus, it's currently sitting pretty at Rotten Tomatoes with an 82 percent critic rating and 87 percent audience rating.

It may seem like a bad omen that its theatrical run lasted just two weeks before the film made its digital debut, but this is actually becoming pretty common —especially for Universal films (both Night Swim and Monkey Man hit digital after just over two weeks in theaters as well).
