>>> In other news we are tracking a brompton murder trial has heard a good man who was accused of killing an ontario man and shooting four family members was undoubtedly part of a trail -- trio who had pledged allegiance to isis birmingham who died, 25-year-old trend to pat and his family, were shot at the mississauga restaurant in 2021. The crown attorney says in an opening statement and that akl found out about their loyalty to isis implantable to authorities. And that's when he became a target. The three suspects are charged with one count of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted murder. >>> -- in british columbia has fallen apart. The two centre right parties bc united and the bc conservatives were intox to end about splitting and take on the ndp ahead of the next provincial election later this year. But now both sides say that is not going to happen. >> John ruxton decided to go with the passionate that no deal for anything. They're the same group of people who run candidates in every election and use every election but they don't mined losing because they have a point to make. I'm about winning. >> Akshay: for his part, bc conservative leader richard roadstead says that kevin parkinson publicly that he wants to put his ego aside perfectly -- privately in the discussions or offer have been completely unserious in this honest. >>> Saskatchewan's government house leader jeremy hart -- after admitting he took a gun in to the lead diligent of building ten years ago. Harrison said he brought the gun which he claims was in a secure case in to the building before going on a weekend hunting trip to make sure it wasn't stolen from his vehicle. The opposition ndp has been calling for harrison to explain himself for days. Has the support --'s apologies for his lack of judgement. >>> Harrison will stay on as minister of trade and immigration issues. >>> And a summary of disruptions at airports and land crossings could be on the horizon. Workers of canada's border services have handed the union a strike mandate. Ctv's genevieve beauchemin has more on what this could mean for travellers. >> Reporter: the union says that a strike could potentially throw that travel plans of many people into disarray the summer. It could also slow the flow of goods across these borders and spent any time here at the local border crossing for incense and you can see just how many trucks are flowing back and forth here. The cbsa has employees at land border crossings at airports, marine ports is also intelligence officers. And what the union says it wants is among other things better wages for them I say that that are more in line with other law enforcement agencies like the rcmp. >> We are looking for greater parity regarding salaries and protection surrounding discipline and protections around contracting out. And, of course, equitable retirement benefits. >> Reporter: what the -- the federal government, employer, is saying that this is still a negotiation, that the potential strike is unnecessary. The prime minister, justin trudeau, said today that the better deal is hammered out as a negotiation stable -- and that still in option here they are also say that they want to remind canadians that 90% of workers will have just handed their unions extract mandates are actually designated as essential. So they have to provide service in the event of a strike. But the union it's a they'll do so but as of 2021 win there was work to rule action it slow down traffic. You were motorists and truckers idling on the border for might've ten hours at the times. So they say this can happen again. Nursing the window is closing to hammer out a deal before june's strike. >> Akshay: thank you for the update.

>>> The truck driver who caused the tragic humbled broncos scratch will be reported. The lawyer for hardeep singh nijjar to the port and that he committed a serious crime. Sixteen people were killed and 13 were injured in the 2018 crash. In 2019, sidhu, who is from india, was sentenced to eight years in prison after pleaded guilty. One of the places survived the crash had this to say about the decision. >> It's out of my hand, it's not really my possibility and , you know, obviously, he one the best for someone in the best for a human and a best for a human and, you know, there's no rhythm encounters no negative emotions towards him and his family. You know, I can't speak on behalf of anyone else but I'm hoping that, you know, from human to human I hope everything works out and they can find happiness. >> Akshay: jaskirat singh sidhu's lawyer michael greene joins us now. Good evening and thank you for your time. >> Good evening. >> Akshay: how has your client taking this news? >> It's tough. Percival I want to correct something you said earlier. You said he is going to be deported. He was order -- order to be deported count is a big difference. We are not done. He has a right to make an application to restore his permanent residence on humanitarian capacity grounds, that is what we intend to do. So he is still -- we knew -- it was a foregone conclusion -- there were no issues with a step in the process but it's a pretty tough on him on his pipe -- and his family. >> Akshay: thank you for sharing more information about the process I had. So, please elaborate about this legal procedure and next steps with this case. >> The way the canadian law works is that there is no right to have your case considered until you're ordered deported. That was clarified by the federal court when we were -- we went before them in december. So really, the only consideration a permanent resident in a situation can have is that after you get ordered deported company apply to get your pr status back on humanitarian grounds. To look at things like your ties to canada, your remorse, you rebelled station manager of the fence in this case although it was her thick, terrible consequences the fact was that it was a momentary lack of attention that a lot of canadians have done before which is -- they look at the best interest of any child phishing he has a child, a young child who would be very much adversely affected if he was deported. So those kind of factors all go into play and then they make a decision about whether to grant relief. >> Akshay: let's talk a little more about his family because we know that his wife and his child also live here in canada. You've mentioned that in his child was if I'm not wrong was born here in canada in the last ten years that he's been here. So how does it affect their lives if at all sidhu is supported? >> His wife is a canadian citizen, she's a registered nurse and she work and healthcare system in alberta. His son was born april of last year. Unfortunately he has a congenital heart defect, he had to spend first --'s first real months of his life in the neonatal -- he almost died. But you had a lot of medical problems that it would probably make it very unsafe for him to go to india. So he would probably be split up the family. Didn't want to be split up because they are very close. This is, you know, it would be a devastating blow to the family if he was deported. >> Akshay: most of the victims, most of the -- victims, families, have welcomed today's the part -- decision saying that the position -- partition is -- again and again. But let me ask you in his defence ended -- you did touch upon this is why in a previous answer. You said that you will not be appealing this decision. Is there a chance legally, is there an opportunity to appeal this decision? >> Know. Is one of the unfortunate things about canadian immigration law right now. There is no forgiveness and no chance to appeal if you get a sentence longer than six months. There is no appeal. I was taken away. I would hope they would bring out back one day but right now there is no option. And when you say most of the families I'm not quite sure that is the case. You know, -- I probably got that from -- is a good example of what a lot of the families feel like which is they don't want any more punishment. They're neutral in the process. There are some who want him deported. But, you know, retained the position that -- and a lot of people do get a lot of public supporters have come to watch and said, you know, he was

PUNISHED MORE THAN ANYBODY ELSE THAT HAS EVER BEEN PUNISHED FOR GOING THROUGH A STOP SIGN WHEN THERE WAS NO OTHER ALCOHOL OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT INVOLVED. AND YOU SHOULD BE PUNISHED ANYMORE. >> Akshay: ALL RIGHT. WE'LL LEAVE IT AT THAT FOR THE MOMENT, APPRECIATE, THAT THIS EVENING. JASKIRAT SINGH SIDHU'S LAWYER MICHAEL GREENE CATHOLIC YOU FOR YOUR TIME. >> Akshay: WITH IT WILL TAKE A SHORT BREAK. To talk about this with -- is good to see you. >> How are you? >> Akshay: very well, thanks. Let's talk about this one. Is a highly anticipated from prequel to mad max fewer road , furiosa. Starting chris hemsworth anya taylor-joy, understanding

ovation other cans from festival. What do you think about her? >> I had a blast. Is on wednesday night on imax screen, pack theatre, people cheering the whole time. Had an amazing time. I'm definitely a fan of the mad max series, I have been, you know, always. But I think that the last one that they did, fury road got it one of the greatest action movies ever made and furiosa is really good. Is not quite as good as matt mactier road but it's different because it more of an epic, to anna avenue always takes place over 15 years and I -- anya taylor-joy plays the actor played by charlie's thrown in she rewrote. I mean, it's compelling, it's beautiful to look at. The action is absolutely incredible, anya taylor-joy probably has one of her favourite -- best rules -- and chris hemsworth at the billing like you've never seen them before wearing this fake nose and just chewing the scenery and having a great time. I really loved this movie. I had a blast. >> Akshay: you know, I haven't seen any of the mad max saga or series, I probably will have to see them to know exactly what you're talking about. >> It's intense, violence but, you know, that's the kind of thing that I like. >> Akshay: good to know. >> But if you didn't like the other ones you will not like this one I will say that. Probably not the best entry point. You should watch the rewrote first I think. >> Akshay: okay so you recommend that. Let's move ahead and talk about other one. We have hitman lined up and a lot of people are liking this one. >> You know, despite the title is not actually a violent will be. It stars glenn powell of this kind of wild manor university professor who gets broke into posing as a hitman for the austrian police, actually loosely, and I'm emphasizing loosely, based on a true story. -- to do away with, you know, family members and glenn powell, heiskanen been on the cusp of stardom for a long time and I think this is the movie that will really kind of kicked him in to the next gear. You know, 20 impersonates the hitman he changed his identity, raise all these disguises and get the kind of almost play it like a jim carrey or peter sellers kind of thing -- this is something completely different, placed all his strength, is directed by richard blenk broader -- is such an interesting evocative movie of -- boston, texas and, you know, it was one of the most like movies at -- rome -- it's well worth seeing on the big screen. I really enjoyed this one anything that anybody who likes -- likes glenn powell and anyone but you will be blown away by him here. >> Akshay: here's a question. I was reading somewhere that this is actually based on some real-life events, is that correct? >> Yeah, and they have an interesting thing that they say. It's based on a true story except for the parts that are made up. >> Akshay: okay. >> And when you see the movie, you understand why most of it is actually made up. The concept is something that actually happens -- happen and quite an interesting concept too. >> Akshay: we'll leave it for that this evening.
